Close to 2 acres of land in the heart of downtown Tulsa soon could see progress. What is now a parking lot near Second and Cincinnati soon could be developed into a grocery store, apartments and restaurants. Developers gave an exclusive look to News On 6 and shared their impressive ideas.
The parking lot just outside of the Performing Arts Center in downtown Tulsa has been just that for 30 years, serving city employees and PAC visitors.
It is owned by the TPAC Trust. “We never had the motivation to do anything with it because we needed the parking,” Stanton Doyle said.
But in the last few years, with the growth happening downtown, the board of trustees realized the land has potential, so they opened it up to interested developers.
“They needed to demonstrate the ability to do a development of this kind and finance a development of this kind,” Doyle said.
Some of the ideas the trust received include: Flaherty & Collins Properties, out of Indianapolis, envisions up to 12 stories of apartments, a 35,000 square foot Reasors grocery store, parking and civic space solely for use by the PAC.
Doyle said the trust has only begun to look over the proposals, but he said all are from qualified parties with interesting ideas.
They most likely are ready to move ahead with one of the developers from this round.
