Flaherty & Collins Properties has begun construction on 6Main, a transformative $38 million mixed-use development on the historic site of the former Elder-Beerman department store in downtown Richmond, Indiana. Rising on the prominent corner of South Sixth and East Main streets, 6Main reimagines a cornerstone of the city’s retail past as a vibrant new urban centerpiece that integrates luxury living with dynamic street-level commercial activity.
Spanning four stories, the project will deliver 150 thoughtfully designed luxury apartments alongside approximately 3,000 square feet of first-floor retail space, fostering a live-work-play environment in the heart of Richmond’s downtown. Apartment offerings feature contemporary finishes and designer touches, including 9-foot ceilings, premium kitchen cabinetry, quartz countertops, walk-in closets, stainless steel appliances, private balconies or patios, and full-sized washers and dryers—all crafted to elevate everyday living.
Residents will enjoy a comprehensive suite of resort-style amenities curated to support wellness, community, and convenience. Highlights include a heated saltwater pool and pool deck, rooftop amenity deck with courtyards and grilling stations, secure hotel-style lobby, outdoor TV lounge, bike storage and bike shop, co-working lounge and offices, clubroom with kitchen and bar, fitness center with private yoga/spin studio, shuffleboard, pet spa and bark park, EV charging stations, and secure parking garage—creating a modern residential experience with robust social and lifestyle offerings.
Construction began in spring 2025, following demolition of the former department store, with completion and leasing anticipated through late 2026 into early 2027. The project reflects Flaherty & Collins’ commitment to infill urban development that honors local heritage while driving economic and community vitality. City leaders have praised the redevelopment for bringing renewed energy and opportunity to a site deeply rooted in Richmond’s commercial history.
